Gemma Tattersall – Olympic Rider Interview
In June this year I was commissioned to capture Gemma Tattersall at her home in Tattleton with her horses. This is my 8th front cover and features edition for this particular magazine.
I work very closely with this amazing brand, Your Horse & Country. The magazine is beautifully created and printed on very high quality stock and although the magazine is a free pick up, it stands alone and at the top of it’s market.
This is why, when they contact top Olympic riders such as William Fox-Pitt, Mary King and this time Gemma Tattersall they all agree with delight to be interviewed and featured in the magazine. I joined Your Horse and Country as their official features photographer right from the start and have worked on some great features with them. If you pick up a copy of the magazine you will see that in most feature, I am mentioned! This is because Dan, the Editor, and I go to the feature interviews together, and always have an adventure.
While Dan interviews the rider this gives me time to learn and find out about the the way they work with their horses. I capture the true character and connection of owners/riders with their horses so being involved in the interview process gives me an edge for these ‘lifestyle’ shots.
Arriving with Gemma, we were immediately made to feel at home. I have met Gemma and her team, including Elodie, her PA, on quite a few occasions, so this made for a relaxed atmosphere while Dan started finding out all about Gemma and her Olympic hopes. Over coffee we discussed each of Gemma’s rides and where they are placed in the current event season. When this interview took place no one knew the Olympic team pick, although we had a good idea that Gemma would be one of the names off to Rio.
The shoot was incredibly smooth and a lot of fun! Gemma commented a few times how much she enjoyed the shoot with me, and complimented me on my style and ability to relax everyone around me on the shoot.
Below I have included the front page and the feature that went to print in the July/Aug/Sept Issue. I have also included some of my favourite shots from my shoot with Gemma and her team.
