Carlotta’s journey with her beloved horses, Fly and Bruno, has been a beautiful story of companionship and growth. As a special Christmas present, Carlotta’s parents, Amanda and Craig, gifted her a photo shoot to capture these precious moments. We scheduled the shoot strategically during her downtime while sitting her GCSE’s, giving her something to look forward to, this photo shoot was more than just a session; it was a therapeutic and joyous experience.
We chose a serene and picturesque yard, located just 15 minutes from Carlotta’s livery, for the shoot. This yard, a familiar place where Carlotta often meets a friend for hacking, provided the perfect backdrop. The tranquility of the location ensured we could focus on the shoot without any interruptions.
The day began with loading up the car with outfits and accessories and boxing up Fly and Bruno. On the journey over we, luckily, managed to dodge the rain.
When we arrived at the location, we scouted the yard and selected the best spots for the shoot, there were so many to choose from.
Carlotta’s first outfit set the tone, a pretty blue and white fitted dress with white trainers, and we started with Fly. He definitely seemed to remember our previous shoot from 2020 and was a natural, posing like a pro.
We then switched to Bruno, who lived up to his nickname, “golden boy.” His calm and easy-going nature made the session delightful. For consistency in the gallery, I photograph both horses in similar settings, ensuring the backgrounds were harmonious and non-distracting, perfect for framing or albums.
Getting both horses to stand and walk together can be challenging, but by maintaining a calm and relaxed atmosphere, we achieved beautiful, authentic shots. My approach is always to take the pressure off both the horse and rider, allowing their genuine connection to shine through.
The only challenge we faced was the weather, but my sunshine dance worked wonders! The sun shone brightly throughout the shoot, and just as we finished, the heavens opened, pouring rain as we safely packed up and headed home.
