Amy, Gary and the Boys — Family Photoshoot at Home
Some shoots just have a lovely story behind them and this one certainly does.
This family session was a thoughtful gift from the wonderful Laura Collett, who many will know as one of the world’s top event riders. Laura wanted to surprise her great friends and long-time supporters Amy and Gary with something they had been meaning to do for ages, a family photoshoot. Like so many of us, it had always been one of those “we’ll get around to it one day” things, and Laura knew how much it would mean to them to finally have these moments captured properly.
We planned the shoot at home, starting with Henry and his pony William, the absolute dream team, before heading out around the estate for family portraits. Gary had definitely passed on the classic thumbs-up trick to little Sid, which was possibly the cutest thing I have ever seen. Henry, on the other hand, took his modelling duties very seriously and absolutely nailed it.
Amy arrived beautifully prepared with three outfit changes, each perfect for the different settings we had chosen. Thank you for bringing it Queen.
We picked a handful of beautiful locations, including the top of the vista with views over the Cotswolds, a spot where the forest created the most stunning full backdrop of trees, an area beside the elephant sculptures, and finally the lake, where the boys ended up playing in the sand. One of my favourite moments came when Amy mentioned she wished she had a proper camera the other day when the boys sat side by side on the pontoon. So, of course, we recreated it. The result was pure childhood nostalgia. Oh to be little again.
My shoots are not always equine specific, although they often have that lovely equestrian element woven through. What I love most is creating relaxed, storytelling portraits that capture real relationships and families being themselves.
I am thrilled to know that Amy and Gary now have multiple framed images from our session proudly hanging in their home, memories that make them smile every day.
And perhaps the biggest win of all, Gary, who was short on time and slightly sceptical at first, ended up loving the shoot. His verdict at the end was, “Yeah, fair play.” I will take that as high praise.
If you have been thinking about booking a family shoot, whether you would like it to include your horses or not, I would love to chat. These moments do not come around twice, and it is always worth capturing them beautifully.
