Behind the Scenes of Our Soho Equestrian Shoot at Rob Waine Dressage Yard
I recently had the pleasure of being commissioned again by Soho Equestrian for an updated commercial photo shoot at the picturesque Rob Waine Dressage yard. This shoot featured the talented Lexi, not only an exceptional model but also a top rider, showcasing the brand’s new cappuccino breeches and black leggings. Though the final product colours remain a secret, the black and white images captured the elegance and essence of Soho Equestrian’s latest collection.
As an experienced equine portrait photographer with 18 years in the field, I strive to bring my unique style to every shoot. Unlike traditional studio settings with plain backdrops and artificial lighting, I prefer natural light and real equestrians. This approach highlights the authentic beauty of both the products and the horses, creating stunning images that resonate deeply with the audience.
The Joy of Natural Light and Real Equestrians
One of the hallmarks of my photography is the use of natural light. It adds a genuine touch to the images, emphasising the true colours and textures of the clothing and the graceful lines of the horses. Real equestrians, like Lexi, bring authenticity and energy to the photos, allowing potential customers to see how the apparel performs in a real-world setting. This method ensures that each shot is not just a product image but a lifestyle portrait that tells a story.
A Day Filled with Laughter and Teamwork
Soho shoots are always full of fun, thanks to the amazing team and great coffee!
Angela ensured we stayed on schedule and kept track of the products needing photography, while our laughter-filled morning prompted Fabian to remark on our supposed lack of hard work. This joy and camaraderie are the essence of my shoots—they are genuinely fun and vibrant. When the team is happy and relaxed, it reflects in the photos, creating a positive and inviting atmosphere.
Capturing the Spirit of Soho Equestrian
Soho Equestrian’s mission to “elevate, empower, and inspire women of all sizes and skins” aligns perfectly with my photography philosophy. This brand is dedicated to making every woman feel confident and beautiful, regardless of her size or skin tone. My goal is to portray real people feeling confident and beautiful in their clothing, capturing authentic moments of life with their horses.
It’s about making the audience feel connected and inspired.
Why Lifestyle Photography Matters for Equestrian Brands
In the competitive world of equestrian fashion, lifestyle photography plays a crucial role in connecting with the target audience. Potential customers want to see how the clothing looks and performs in real life, not just on a mannequin or in a studio environment. By photographing real equestrians in natural settings, we can showcase the versatility, comfort, and style of Soho Equestrian’s products. This approach helps build trust and authenticity, encouraging customers to envision themselves wearing the apparel and experiencing the same sense of confidence and empowerment.
